The Latest Health and Fitness Club Industry Recovery Data
CHECK-INS
New member joins are the single most important indicator of the industry’s current and future health, and Q2 showed an extremely promising upswing for the industry. Even so, this is a lagging metric that is highly dependent upon one of the next metrics, New Member Joins.
ACTIVE MEMBERSHIPS AND CANCELLATIONS
Active memberships saw a decline at the beginning of Q2 as clubs ended their hold policies that kept active membership numbers afloat during 2020. By May, most members were given the option to reactive or cancel, and a predicted spike in cancellations followed in June. But with June’s big push to reactivate lost members, active memberships are expected to grow significantly in the coming months.
REVENUE
Despite the trend in cancellations, club revenue grew throughout Q2 of 2021 and is in an even healthier spot than it was in Q2 of 2019! (You’ll want to download the report to check this one out.) An increase in revenue is a huge sign of recovery, as it means all other positive metrics are trending upward as well.
