Technology and a personal touch aren’t mutually exclusive at Unyqe Fitness. Bryan Watkins, Co-Founder of the Honolulu-based club, shares their secret to enhancing service without losing the human connection that makes them special.

By teaming up with Club Automation, Unyqe Fitness found a way to streamline operations while improving their member engagement.

The results? Unyqe Fitness grew from an average of 8 new members per month to 47 in just one month. Read on to learn how they did it.

The Challenge: Leveraging Technology Without Losing Their Personal touch

Unyqe Fitness has crafted a reputation as a premier, all-in-one fitness club in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii. They hold a special place in their local community due to their unwavering commitment to delivering convenient, personalized member experiences.

“We found that convenience is one thing that people always circle back to, no matter what the changes are in the style of training or what customers need to adapt to,” shares Watkins. “If it’s convenient, it will always have a place in the market.”

For years, Unyqe Fitness leaned heavily on word-of-mouth and the strong, positive member relationships to drive their high retention rates. They invested in high-quality, convenient membership offerings to foster an environment where members want to share those experiences with friends and family.  

And they saw results. Focusing on member satisfaction and community- building established Unyqe Fitness as a trusted name in their local fitness community.

“We will continue to add to our service offerings to make it as convenient as possible for our members,” says Bryan Watkins.

However, even with a loyal member base, Unyqe Fitness wasn’t immune to shifting member expectations. According to FullStory, 74% of customers expect businesses to use existing technology in new ways to create better experiences. This desire for new digital experiences is reshaping the fitness industry, as 65% of customers expect businesses to adapt to their changing needs.

To continue thriving, Unyqe Fitness needed to embrace a more proactive approach to attracting new members. This meant maintaining the high-quality member experience they were known for while simultaneously leveraging  marketing automation tools to expand their reach.

Unyqe Fitness's journey reached a pivotal moment when the team acknowledged a crucial gap: their existing systems could not provide the personalized, convenient outreach they envisioned for their members. The task at hand was clear. They needed to find a solution that could integrate seamlessly with their existing operations, enhance member engagement, and support their growth – all without losing the personal touch that makes them stand out.

“Sometimes, fear might come in for a business owner,” shares Watkins. They’ll think, “’Oh my God, we’re not going to make it for another six months.’ They’ll start throwing things at the wall. I know that. I’ve done it myself.”

Watkins and the Unyqe Fitness team were determined to avoid that mistake. “This time around, I wanted to make sure that whatever we implemented and whatever we do, we do it with the right partners. We do it with convenience in mind and we execute it as best as we can.”

The Solution: Outreach Tools Designed for Personalization

Unyqe Fitness needed a solution that could streamline everything from billing and member management to communication, all under one roof. Their search led them to Club Automation.

Unyqe Fitness found the missing piece of their puzzle in Club Automation's marketing automation tool. “I’ve been fortunate enough to work in sales in other industries as well over the last 20 years,” shares Watkins. “I’m pretty familiar with different CRM systems, and this one is definitely very comprehensive.”

With new marketing automation tools at their fingertips, Unyqe Fitness can now reengage past members and attract new ones with targeted marketing efforts, satisfying their desire to blend efficiency and personalization. Watkins believes having “that direct communication – [sharing] links, information about things that are going on at your club, being able to be in your community’s hand and have those touch points – is extremely valuable.”  

“It’s a very convenient and easy way for us to be able to reengage them,” shares Watkins. “When we did decide to move forward, I felt confident that we would be able to manage that. That was the first time that I thought, ‘OK, we’re ready to do something that might bring in a larger member base here.’ And it did.”

The Results: From 8 to 47 New Members Through the Door in Just One Month

The collaboration between Unyqe Fitness and Club Automation produced major results within one month. Before Club Automation, Unyqe Fitness averaged eight new members per month. After implementing a new drip campaign with Club Automation, that number soared to 47 new members in just the first month.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Unyqe Fitness saw further success with a campaign advertising a special Valentine’s Day promotion. The campaign brought 15 more locals through the door in under two weeks, nearly doubling their average of 8 new members per month.

Beyond the growth in memberships, the partnership enhanced Unyqe Fitness’s operational efficiency and member communication as well. “Every contact that we have has had some kind of interaction with Unyqe Fitness,” shares Watkins. Unyqe Fitness has been “able to take all those contacts we inherited and grew over the years, and put [Club Automation] to work to let people know what our new service offerings are and what we can do for them.”

Looking ahead, Unyqe Fitness is optimistic about the future of their member communication strategies. With the newfound capabilities provided by Club Automation, they're poised to explore even more innovative ways to connect with members. “We see the potential,” says Watkins. “We’re just scratching the surface.”
