As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in March of 2020 and the world was put on hold, the health, wellness, and fitness industry was met with an incredible amount of uncertainty. Overnight, clubs were shut down with no definite date or plan for reopening.

Amidst uncertainty and change, club leaders need data-backed strategy to navigate uncharted waters. When approaching the future, it’s helpful to know where you stand.

If you’ve been asking yourself questions like: How is my club or wellness center trending in comparison to others across the country? What does the data say about the health of months to come? We provided the data.

Our monthly Insights and Impact report offered valuable insight into the state of the industry. From new member joins and check-ins trends to member holds and cancellation tracking, we sought to provide a resource for club businesses to use in navigating your new, ever-changing reality.

Powered by our own Performance Analytics technology, our monthly report and analysis broke down the latest fitness industry statistics, empowering businesses to turn insights into action through trusted recommendations.

Health and Fitness Club Recovery Data

This market includes a wide array of health and wellness businesses, from tennis centers and multipurpose clubs to corporate wellness facilities and country clubs. With nearly all states shutting the doors to their fitness facilities, and many with restrictions still in place, the Club Division, like the rest of the fitness industry, took a hit.

During a time of great duress and uncertainty, clubs across the nation refused to leave their futures up to fate. Instead, you banded together to form state fitness alliances and advocate on behalf of the entire industry. Your efforts and tenacity played a big role in not only shifting public perception but enacting actual policy change from state and local legislators when deciding a plan for the phased reopening of businesses.

Beginning in early 2020, your club’s situation changed from week to week, if not day to day. Our monthly reports helped you make game-time decisions and understand the recovery patterns of clubs like yours across the country.

Now that the dust has settled on 2020, and with the hope of the vaccine restoring an old sense of “normal,” we’ve compiled a report that covers all the data from the year of 2020.

Divided into reports for three distinct markets encompassing nonprofit organizations, health clubs, and boutique fitness studios, Insights x Impact includes percent-to-normal data on revenue, member check-ins, joins, holds, cancellations, and more.
